Estella Tacos y Mezcal.
Pati Jinich-blessed and James Beard semifinalist. Order the birria, then a mezcal flight, then one more taco. The most quietly important restaurant in the state right now.

↳ From the owner
Estella is named for my grandmother. Everything we serve started in her kitchen in Oaxaca and walked to ours in Reno. The mezcal program is the longest in northern Nevada. The birria is hers, and the only thing I'd put my name on. We don't take reservations, we don't rush you, and we don't water down the salsa.

Birria heaven
The birria is the move. The mezcal flight is the move. The whole evening is the move.

Took my parents — they wept
They lived in Oaxaca for ten years. They said it was the closest they'd come to home in this country. Thank you.

Loud but worth it
Saturday night is packed and loud. Sit at the bar if you can. The mezcal recommendations were perfect.

Service uneven
Food is genuinely incredible. Service was scattered the night we went — long waits, dropped order. Will try again.

Sorry about that Reza. We had a sick call that night and it showed. We'd love to make it right — DM us. — Luis
